AS&D railing was used in the construction of a 1,500 sq. ft. hillside deck overlooking Puget Sound. The deck designer, the Leren Company of Washington, opted for a vertical cable railing system. The design features a set of stairs connecting spa pool deck to an upper deck where a gas fire pit is located. To meet local code, each gate into the spa area has a safety alarm, and the spa is completely enclosed around the perimeter with AS&D aluminum railing.

Washington state code requires at least a 48-inch- high guard fence around swim structures. To address this, the designer installed the AS&D Railing System on the earth planter, a 36-inch- wide level area that is less than 30 inches below the front edge of the deck. In doing this, the designer was able to drop the elevation of the guard fence without reducing its overall height. This provided the clients uninterrupted views of nearby Puget Sound while maintaining design consistency with the rest of the deck.

A restored waterworks building in the heart of Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood, Coppins Well features AS&D Aluminum Railings on the ground level as well as the second story. A mixed-use development in Seattle’s lively University District, The Marion West features American Structures Series 200 Aluminum Rails with Fascia Mounts. The Flat Top Aluminum Rails and Picket Infills were used to create clean lines that seamlessly echo the structure’s geometric exterior.

Fascia mounts for the Aluminum Rails pair perfectly with the concrete deck to fully capture the industrial, contemporary feel of this urban space. The fascia mount was done using the AS&D pre-engineered fascia mount brackets (RA-FMPB) to minimize any water intrusion at the attachment point to the deck structure and increase usable deck space. Aluminum rails in a white enamel finish compliment the complex’s vibrant green panels.
